I saw the beginning of it Rita, and missed the houses when the phone went lol, I would have liked to see what they came up with, she would be on a teachers salary next year so I would assume that was why she could get the mortgage ( the student loan being the deposit) or maybe family were standing as guarantor until she is earning?

I love all those programmes altho there have been a few too many of the rich people going on Escape to the country etc - I prefer to see more affordable homes being sought.

I have several places I would like to move to, given the money and chance, and often look through the houses for sale in those areas.
At the mo, if I won a quarter of a million somehow, there are two in my favourite coastal village in Norfolk that I would have to chose between, the larger one needs updating a bit I think but is on a rather busy road and the other more conveniently and quietly placed one has only two bedrooms and is the same price (£195,000) I especially like the details with floor plans on so I can imagine how I would arrange my life, and of course you can see the gardens etc too.

It's good fun if you are nosy to look at the house details - I found my ex's house for sale a few years ago and could see his wife had taken a lot of stuff when they split up lol I also recognised a few of his things he had all those years ago, some pictures he had painted etc.

I think if I had really valuable stuff tho I wouldn't leave it on show for the photos as anyone can access them and see what's worth stealing and the layout and security to some extent, e.g. double glazing or old wooden patio doors.

Oh for a little win on the premium bonds or lottery.....

I think a lot of times you either have exactly the right house but in the wrong place and vice versa lol.

I agree with Merlin, and it used to drive me mad that people moved from say Birmingham to the Welsh coast and then complained about the seagulls.... the seagulls were there first !

Julia, 'Country Living' is always interesting, we used to get that. I would like a place where I could have a few chickens, a little way from neighbours, but with transport and some shops ( and a pied a terre in London lol...in my dreams).

I'm always watching the property programmes
i like Location Location Location with Kirtsy Allsop and
Phil Spencer also Relocation .Relocation .
also Escape to the country. and i also like Homes under the Hammer.
But sometimes i;m a bit like Wisechild throwing my hands up in dispair ..lol
As for what i would like , i did have a large Edwardian 5 bedroomed house but it takes some up keep, we had it all rewired central heating put in , it had a lovely tiled floor in the hallway and an inner front door that had coloured glass in the side panels and the coving was beautiful yes a lovely house all in all , but it got far to big for us when the children left
so we sold and moved into a flat then the bungalow that we are now in
and i love it .

Rambling Rose, actually absolutely adore these kind of programmes and look for ideas to, well, not actually copy, but to get inspiration
It has to be a farmhouse cottage for us. I take, monthly, the Country Living magazine. We are semi rural as it is, but, though I would like to be more so, the criterias for me would have to be, does my doctors practice cover that particular area, can I get easily to a dispensing chemist, are there regular buses to get shopping etc, when the OH is indisposed, and how far is it from my main hospital. All these things have to be addressed if making this kind of move, at our ages.
Rather agreee with Merlin the Rascal (don't ask). People do move to the countryside and then complain about the Cockerals and Churches.
We are doggy people, but would have more, Labradors, this time to go with the Cockers.
I make all my own stuff, have an allotment, do my own jams and pickles
I am part way there, I have an Aga, and a kitchen that would be of the farmhouse variety, if only it was bigger
Julia, forever living in hope, in Derbyshire
I already wear boots and wellingtons, not together, and I can do patchwork LOLOL

I actually know somebody who was a participant and, although they came up with several houses in the area, none of them actually fulfilled their criteria so they didn't buy one of them. But they did move to the area, finding their own dream house.

I love this house we are in now, been here nearly 19 years now and of all the houses/bungalow we've owned (this is the sixth) this is the most convenient and, to me the best. However, I would love a bungalow with the same number of rooms, or I would love this house if it was in a position of having a view of the sea.

Have to confess to being addicted although I spend a good proportion of the programme ranting at the house seekers because ,having been shown what they asked for, it´s not right. Not that I believe in making do with second best, but there are limits.

Merlin Report 9 Jan 2011 13:47

I do sometimes, but when I see the Follow up some people say they,ve moved again because ( in a country Village etc ) the Cockerels are crowing or the Church Bells ring too loudly. That pees me off, if they don,t like that ,why bother to move.We bought and did up the Dream Home a Lovely Victorian Villa ,then because of Illness had to Downsize,Shame really.**M**.

I find them fascinating lol, just watched 'Escape to the country' on 'Home', looking in Cambridgeshire...huge houses in this instance.

It is a good way of finding out what your 'dream house' would be ( not that it's ever likely to be mine lol) going by the ones you really would NOT want, even if you had the money to buy.

Are you a watcher ? and what is your 'dream', modern and minimal, Georgian splendour, Victorian clutter with floral tiled fireplaces; Inglenooks and beams in cottages with sloping floors and not a straight wall to be seen or a cosy seaside fishermans cottage with whitewashed walls?
