OMG what a mess Them poor people
Each day I catch up on the news !! But today I,ve been watching videos of their cars being swept away ..and I cant yet understand why they are letting the water take their cars and things ...
Everyone has been told to leave Brisbane but still they stay and video cars being swept away
why dont they save what they can? and get out

I do realise that will lead to thousands of displaced people but is this why insurance companies put up prices coz people DO leave stuff to be swept away

Several points-

This did not happen in Brisbane, but in the Lockyer Valley.

It was a flash flood- descibed as an "inland tsunami"

People were too busy trying to save their own lives to worry about their bloody cars!

Many did not save their own lives- still 60+ missing.

The clip I watched was Brisbane.....now I,m only looking at Brisbane coz I have close family there!

Cold air moving westwards across the Pacific Ocean from South America meets hot air off the east coast of Australia and the result is rain. This happens every year at this time. However, every 20 or 30 years or so the difference in temperature between the two air masses is far larger, resulting in much higher levels of rain and hence flooding as the water makes its way down the rivers to the coast.

Apparently, the signs were there last Oct / Nov time that this would be a problem year when higher levels or rain than normal were starting to fall. You sort of get the impression that the warning signs were not treated seriously enough by the authorities, and of course by now it is too late.

Kemp , seriously if the water is sweeping cars and anything else out of the way what do you think it would do to them if they tried to save them?? I think these people are trying to save their lives and to hell with material things dont think they would mean a lot in a situation like that .

I would like to know what the British Government are going to do to help in Australia, and all the other agencies eg; B.B.C. et al, They are quick to support other didasters(quite rightly), but these are ordinary working people who have lost everything. So far, NADA???

A great number of Australians share our D.N.A we should be rallying to help, It will take years for them to rebuild their lives again.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?
