Oh well, another case of all of us being morons, I guess. Things work just fine, it's just that we can't work them, but all is well in the best of all possible worlds nonetheless.

I deleted a contact a few weeks ago. I specifically wanted to see whether this deleted the messages we had exchanged from my various folders.

It didn't. They are still there. But I can't find them by finding the person in my contacts list, in the ordinary way, because the person is no longer in my contacts list, because I deleted them ...

I did report it and got a reply from Laura suggesting it was still the case

"Thanks for your email. If you go to the Messages section of the site and click on My Contacts in the drop down list, you will see a list of the contacts you have made. To delete a contact, tick the box at the far right of the member's details. You can delete several contacts in one go, by ticking as many boxes per page as you need and then clicking on 'delete' at the bottom of the page. This will permanently delete the contact and all the messages they have sent."

I replied explaining I had tried that but got no reply from them, so they are aware but haven't acted on it

As far as I know it is still supposed to work this way. Looks like a bug, so why not report it as such.

previously deleting a contact cleared all correspondance between you and your contact. Now you have to delete contact and go through the inbox to delete mail and also the outbox....when i mailed genes re this my first response was that you deleting contact did remove all posts...why improve a site only to make it worse?
