Quoy Report 13 Jan 2011 17:20

For nigh on 10years now my husband has had treatment on and off for a wart on his finger .

The second week of December he saw a young locum doctor who sent him straight to hospital for a biopsy .

Result Cancer . Big shock.

On Monday he had most of his finger cut away and rebuilt .Husband is a diabetic so we are now waiting to see if the skin graft takes.

Thank goodness it is only a finger it could have been worse as I keep telling him

He is in the best place now,

Is he under the plastic surgeons?

It is a good thing that the Locum was covering and got your Husband sent for the biopsy.

All cut away and rebuilt in 2and a half hours on Monday and home Tuesday.

It is giving us a few laughs because it is his left hand and he is left handed .

Needless to say I have to cut his food up ,he is not getting as messy now though when he eats.

I hope the finger soon heals. And, as others have said, what a good job it was a young alert locum.

So glad that locum got your o.h. checked out properly, I hope things go ok now and that your o.h.'s G.P. apologises. It's scary to think what could have happened had this not been noticed in time.

I hope OH responds well to treatment and his finger soon heals.

Thank goodness for locum who was obviously concerned enough to investigate.

Thank you all for your good wishes

I put this up as a cautionary tale

get any persistent growths looked at

Jean (Monmouth)

Jean (Monmouth) Report 14 Jan 2011 19:53

I have several growths, but I am told they are all benign, but you cant help wondering when youfind another!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 14 Jan 2011 20:13

it is possible of corure that it was benign to begin with, but then turned malignant recently.

OH's sister's husband had a mole on his leg, it was always being checked and regarded as benign ............ but then about 1984 it suddenly changed in size.

It turned out to be melanoma, it spread despite all the treatment he was given, and he died 3 years later at the very young age of 40.

But the same warning that Quoy gave still applies

Get everything checked out.

I too have a lot of moles and scaly growths ....... one turned out to be basal cell carcinoma and was removed. But OH checks my back regularly, and the docs carefully look at anything I mention, taking them for biopsy if they have the slightest suspicion.
