He would have had a discharge document/book and that would give some useful info. Have you checked to see if in personal effects? If you were born whilst he still serving it might be that his regimental number etc is given on your FULL birth cert. My father's data shown on my birth cert. Hope this helps

If your mother or father are still alive, or you have EPO for either of them, it shouldn't cost you anything.

Copy and paste the link Kathleen gave you and take it from there.

(Father in law is going to sign his RAF NS request forms next time we see him - bless him)

Sorry, didn't even realise the other services did National Serice, he was in the Army. He became a Corporal and was a P.T. Instructor. I also know that he served in Germany, I know this because of some of the stories he used to tell. Don't know if any of this is of any use. Thank you to Robert and Kathleen.

Give us some more information, Karen - Army, Navy, RAF?

National service was normally served between the ages of 18 and 20 and at the time your Father served, the period would probably be 2 years.

There are several ex National servicemen look at the threads on here.

Have a look here:-

His service records will still be with the MOD. They cost about £30 and take quite a few months to arrive. You will need his name and if possible his regiment, and will have to sign a Next of Kin form.

How do you trace national service records?

I am trying to trace my fathers records, He was born in 1933, I am not even sure at what age national service was served! Please could somebody advise me where to start looking and what information I would need. Thank you.
