wHAT DO YOU MEAN 'BETTER & MORE ACCURATE?'

THERE ARE VARIOUS SOURCES - MOST ONLY GIVE A REF , WHICH YOU USE TO SEND FOR A CERTIFICATE

You will not get all the details of a birth, marriage or death cert on line as mentioned you will need to puchase them. £9.25 from GRO

Some london marriages can be viewed on ancestry before 1921

Some other areas have the marriages transcribed on line but you will not find them on GR if thats where you are looking.

If you give some idea to what you are trying to find someone will be able to help you

The listings you get from most of the BMD sites are fact indexes of where to look. It can be quite hard work combing through the pages you are given - but as Amokavid says the alternative is to comb through all the old records in archive offices yourself. At least this way we can do it in comfort at home (own chair, cup of coffee, in your pyjamas, stop & start when you choose)

Thanks all..My complaints of course are sheer frustration.
Cross referencing seems impossible without details of spouses and/or
known dates. Perhaps I'll get better as I go along. :-)

Thanks Rose..I have enough for my tree. Turns out that Edward was a Plumber..the 1st in the family!

On the cert it has Edward as a cabinet maker like his father? change of occupation maybe.

I had him living as a boarder and working for the railway in
Stratford, London. Now it's all disappeared..
Anymore on his father..was he born in Ireland?
