As far as I know it was. Have you looked around the 1911 census site to see if there is any info on there about its completeness or otherwise?

I must say that I can't find everyone I look for ... I'm not sure how good the transcribing has been so it may be a case of cutting down on the number of search fields you are using - or using wildcards - in case they've been mistranscribed.

I have had some difficulty too finding some of mine. The problem seems to be transcribing some of the writing, I found one hopelessly transcribed but when I looked at the actual page its was understandable the writing was awful It was only that I knew the name that I was able to know it was the right one.
Also the head of house may have been off with his info. My paternal grt gran was a visitor at one of her married daughters, Hubby filled in the census ,had her younger than she was and said born Whitechapel London. She was born in Bethnal Green ,All attempts at finding her first failed it was only when I thought would look for grandfathers siblings families that she popped up!! also had one of grandads sons from his previous marriage with her with the wrong place of birth and age !!

I'd forgotten about the Suffragettes ...

But the transcriptions reminds me of a classic in my partner's tree on the 1911. Dad had written down ALL of the children in the order in which they were born, including the 6 who had subsequently died. The enumerator crossed out the deceased ones but the names were legible. Dad had also included married daughter - even though she also shows with her husband and child at a completely different address! (So, he completely misread the instructions but I am so pleased he did bless him as I have the names of the whole family!)

And, just to confuse the issue even more - I have never found a marriage cert for this couple (and I think they just lived together) but the enumerator had "guesstimated" how many years they had been married by adding a year to the age of the eldest surviving child. (Completely ignoring the eldest child who had died aged about 2.) So confusing and no nearer to finding their marriage cert!

p.s. Rebecca - try posting a few details here and see if other eyes can spot them!

wow thankyou everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i never thought of changing the spelling of the name slightly, then again on some sites you can ask it to look for alternative surnames

thanks again mystery solved x : )

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 22 Jan 2011 15:56

This could be the right thomas but there is no middle name on the birth record however his grandads name was francis and he was the first born child so it is highly possible thankyou

ChristineinPortugal Report 22 Jan 2011 15:56

If you're using GR to search you have to use an exact surname don't you?

You can do a free search on the site below using variants then if you find it mistranscribed you can use that name on GR.

He may have had a middle name added at baptism. My mother did. Her birth reg'n does not show the name added later.
