why not axe expensive programmes which have changed beyond all recognition such as Top Gear?

That's a shame - we haven't got the new series here in Aus. but now we won't get it at all:-((

Never watched it

I would imagine Larkrise IS expensive - largish cast, locations, costumes etc. Haven't they 'used up' the original stories from the book anyway? I don't watch it now, I thought it had got a bit silly and contrived.

It's a very gentle, easy-watching sort of programme, which probably is quite expensive, but I would rather they spent money on programmes than on sending out reporters to locations for live broadcasts, which add little or nothing to the story line.
During the recent cricket news about the Ashes, the reporter was standing, in the dark, outside Lords...... WHY?

I agree with you Gwyn! Have just re-read my comment and I didn't mean to imply that I didn't care if it was axed just cos I don't like it, lol! I did very much enjoy the first two series - let's hope the BBC come up with something of equal quality in the future.

Thats a shame, I really enjoy the programme.

Maybe its come to the end of its natural life, there can only be so many stories which can be done without ruining the series.

I bet the Beeb will commission more police / detective / crime programmes...as if there isnt enough.

I hope they will commission more historical dramas in its place.

What a shame,
It can be a bit frilly but its nice and better than watching Clarkson and co who pop up day and night on all channels.

I really enjoy Lark Rise, it’s a gentle programme to watch and wind down.
I know it’s a rather rose tinted view of very hard times but enjoyable, with believable characters you can feel empathy for, unlike many soaps where frankly most of the people portrayed are quite the opposite!

I did think maybe it was struggling a little bit this week though, so perhaps it may be better if it goes out at the top of its game (rather like Fawlty Towers) than tails off slowly, or is jazzed up with increasingly more dramatic story lines.

I listened to the Archers for years, enthralled to find out if the village fete or play would be saved from disaster! but finally got turned off by it’s attempts to compete with TV soaps for popularity.

I Love to watch Lark Rise and I for one is sad that it will end.

That is a shame.

There's already a problem with rubbish on TV most evenings now we'll have another night with nothing to watch.
