Hi
Has anyone had experience of getting travel insurance with a pre-existing condition please?
I'm looking to get insurance for travel to the USA for someone who has had a heart by pass.
Take care
Von

I am just trying to do the same, I want cruise insurance, to USA, with pre-existing medical conditions, RA & Blood Pressure. Still looking.

Hi Carol
It's a bit of a minefield. OH found one company answered all the relevant questions only to be told at the end "Sorry we can't insure you".

Hi
I had an op a few years ago which left me with clots in my lungs - so the rat poison had to be taken. Just as I was about to go on my 25th aniversary cruise! Basically, most places I was in touch with would do it, but it costs the earth.

Have you tried your bank insurance group - Lloyds did mine, if I remember. But try asking your travel agent.

Hope this helps
Dee

Hi Dee
Thank you. I'll look at that.
Don't have a travel agent but I could go into the local one and ask. Hadn't thought of that to be honest. Will do that tomorrow.

Getting Better all the time Carol.
I'll look at that tomorrow.
It would appear that cover is also open to negotiation once you have found the company who will insure you.
Thank you to everyone

Don't forget to ring the insurance company to let them know of a pre[existing condition..

My late hubby had to ring the company to let them know and they didn't refuse to insurance him..(Triple By Pass and diabetes..)

Hi Sue
Thank you
Problem is we don't have an insurance at present and some companies will not insure you if you've had a heart by pass.
We've spoken to a few today so we are getting there now. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be sorted.
Take care
Yvonne

I went to a travel agent for the holiday insurance and it was one of the staff that told us to ring the company to make sure they knew he had a heart problem and diabetes..

Good Luck..

We have used Age Concern (now called Age Uk ) for a few years now. If you choose to complete on line then you can do a dummy run to see what questions you will be asked and get a quote without having one of those intimidating telephone calls that you get when applying by phone.
Should have said that we both have pre existing conditions, one of mine being that I have had a heart attack, Also I am 66 and OH is 62

Neil
Thank you. I'll have a look at that too.

Sue you are absolutely correct some will only give you a quote if you have a medical condition if you phone them even though you are supposed to be able to get a quote online.
Thank you all for your help

nudge for anyone looking for insurance, please tell company of your existing medical conditions, otherwise your insurance could be made invalid.

See my post re LV on Gen

LV= will also insure travellers with a wide range of medical conditions, some of which will carry just a minor or no increase in cost. Travellers with medical conditions do not need to go through an in-depth medical examination, rather they are just required to fill in an easy to use form online or speak to one of LV=’s customer service representatives
