We have a 15 year old Granvia and its definitely the best car we've had.
Don't know what to replace it with but will be another Toyota. Had a Corolla and a Space Cruiser years ago and have always found them reliable. Toyota have handled this issue badly and hopefully will learn from it.

Ronald, that was a good result when you had your brake pipe checked/modified.

My Toyato Yaris is 9 years old (April 02 Reg) got over 90,500 miles on the clock and like Carol430181 most of its bits and pieces are originals. Had one set of tyres, one rear part of exhaust and one new wheel bearing - and I know wot caused that. Never had to change a bulb.

It was recalled some years ago regarding modification to a brake pipe as they reckoned brake fluid could freeze in very adverse conditions. When I picked car up it had been washed, topped up with petrol and I rec'd a gift packet with one bottle of red, one of white wine. No complaints there. It's only 1000cc engine and if driven moderately I can still get 50mpg. Not when I'm cruising at a very excessive speed tho. It will do at least 102mph! lol

NJo, never had a Japanese Car, always British,Untill they sold out. Indian Company own them now. Trouble with "Petrol Leaks, if not corrected ,things tend to go bang,as with some Ferraris just lately.**M**.

I had an Avensis company car a few years back and it was the best car I have ever had. In terms of comfort, performance and value for money. It never put a foot wrong.

Recalls are not new, and will never be completely eliminated in fact 140 faults out of 8 million annual sales is not a lot. And don't forget they are usually precautionary.

The problem with Toyota is that they have not handled things very well. The file they received was not for the fact there were faults, but for the way they handled things. Unfortunately it doesn't help their reputation.

Let's face it, cars are 1000% better than they were even 20 years ago.

OH!!
dont you just want to go back to the days when Asian /foreign cars in the UK were virtually Unknown?

I mean you bought a car and it went without saying that it looked nice and all that, but reliability?? LOL you just Knew that it would breakdown, but you accepted it, and when it did, out came the toolbox, a couple of spanners, a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, a pair of stockings and you could fix practically anything........ these days if it stops, unless you've run out of fuel...or a puncture,....its virtually a computer analysis job!!

Toyota have had so many recalls that its reputation is starting to take a hammering.

Certainly I would be doubtful about buying one.

We had an Avensis for a while, but got rid of it a couple of years ago.

Toyota recalls 1.7m vehicles globally over 'fuel leak'

Toyota has recalled about 12 million vehicles since September 2009
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is to recall nearly 1.7 million vehicles worldwide over concerns about a possible fuel leakage.

About 1.2 million models are being recalled in Japan and 421,000 overseas, including 140,000 Avensis models in Europe.

Japan's transport ministry said slight cracks could appear in fuel pipes which could cause leakages if untreated.

No accidents have been reported because of the flaw, said Toyota.

"Slight cracks may appear on the engine fuel pipes. If [the car] continues to be used, the crack may be widened and there may be risks of fuel leakage," the ministry said in a statement.

There have been 140 reports in Japan of the problem.

Toyota said that some Lexus models would be included in the recall.

This is the latest in a long line of recalls at the world's largest carmaker.

Toyota has now recalled about 12 million cars since September 2009, including 14 separate recalls last year.

Last month, it agreed to pay a record fine of $32.4m (£20.8m) in the US, following a $16.4m penalty in April, over its handling of the recalls.

Earlier this week, Toyota announced global sales of 8.42 million vehicles, just ahead of General Motors' 8.39 million, confirming its position as the world's biggest carmaker for the third year in a row.
