You were very lucky indeed Dizzi. It must have been a very scary time for parent's. I remember having half a jar of Vick rubbed into my chest every morning before i set off for school. Not quite as affective as the flu jab, but i suppose my Mum thought of it as a preventative measure.
Chickenpox was bad enough in those day's. Not the illness itself, as far as i was concerned, but the fact that you had to stay in a dark room for ten day's !!!

Oooh, I remember that - I was chucked in bed with my brother, so he'd catch it! I also remember having that Asian flu when I was about 12 and I was so ill.

Was that Chickenpox PricklyHolly? I thought it was Measles! Lol I do recall having flu in the mid to late 60's while at Secondary school, missing the last couple of days of the winter term. It was amazing how the numbers of students at registration dropped over a week or so from the c 25 before I succumbed.

Ooops, actually you are right Det, it was the measles.
When i had Chickenpox, the Doctor said i was not to return to school until all the spots had dissappeard. The last spot i had was on my forehead. I accidently knocked it off one day and stuck it back on with vaseline.
I managed another 2 day's off school!!! lol

I was born during the Asian flu epidemic of 1957 :)

My mum thought she had been put in a nice private room for some strange reason, but when they wheeled her back to the maternity ward several days later , across the snowy courtyard she looked back and saw 'Isolation' on the door lol.

Just thought I'd share that with you ;o)

(in excess of 30,000 deaths over England and Wales)
