I have been typing up the family tree for my Uncle.
I have lots of info but never put it in order before.

It turns out that my Great, Great Grandad and Grandma and married on the 25th Feb 1874

Their Son, my Great Grandad married on the same date in 1906.

Was this a common thing to do in those days in Families or somthing to do with the tax year.

I think maybe it was a Saturday, which as Kay said was the only way anyone could attend as they probably weren't working.

For many couples, 25 December was the only day they BOTH had the whole day free!
My Gran was in service in the 1920's, and had Wednesday afternoons,Sunday's and December 25th off.
My Grandad worked at the docks and the only day he could guarantee he'd have off was December 25th.
Mind you, working in the docks, where you had to turn up and be picked for work meant he had quite a few other unpaid days off during the year.

I thought it was strange that they were marrying on Christmas day...never thought of the obvious answer !!

Thanks for your replies,

Can you still marry on Christmas Day now?
It would be nice if you could. Mind you with so many people who work now on all days of the week it could prove to be a problem:)

Coincidences are........
strange.

October seems to have been an eventful time of year for many of my ancestors - all on my Dad's side......................

My g.g.g.grandparents married 16 October 1827
G.g.g.granny died 18 October 1867
One of their sons died 15 October 1836.
One of their daughters was born 17 October 1843.
One of their grandaughters was born 20 October 1860.
One of their grandaughters died 16 October 1862.
G. Granny died 14 October 1934.
My granny married 17 October 1920.
My Dad was born 15 October 1927
and he died 18 October 2009.

What the heck is it about that particular week in October??!!!!
