Has anyone ever heard of the Ministry of Mechanisation that I believe was in operation in WW2?

The only reference I can find on the whole of the net is on a site about tank production that mentions a Director of Mechanisation, part of the Ministry of Supply.

My interest is that my grandfather's death certificate states that he was a Chief Photographer (retired) in this Ministry. My understanding from the family is that he was in a reserved occupation and was involved with interpretation of aerial photographs, presumably of enemy positions. This does not seem to sit readily in a Ministry of Supply, but perhaps it does?

Any information that anyone has or can direct me to more information would be most gratefully received.

Alan
