Yes you're right, she wasn't a traveller, but she did blend in rather well :o))))

Quite a few traveller kids who quit school at 11 in our community are then home schooled, But this does not apply to some, and some do go on to secondary school.

It all depends on the needs & beliefs of the individual family units within the traveller community.

I think while the Older girls are cleaning, the mothers and younger kids are down their local Harvesters or carverys trashing the place kids running riot and finding something wrong with the meals so they dont have to pay, otherwise they just run out when no one is looking

Seen it happen on a regular basis

That bride's mother was awful, Mildred - not a traveller though. The wedding outfits they are showing are mostly really excessive aren't they but each to their own:)))

I am finding the people on it lovely on the whole, attitudes to (and from) women are very very old fashioned but that's not my business. I've known travellers all my life and they're as good and bad as anyone else but I will say they have stronger family values than a lot of the rest of society.

I too wondered why the girls were being kept off school to *clean* and where were their mothers?

I came to the conclusion they were busy cleaning up their overgrown baby boys' vans !!! seeing as one of them looked aghast at the thought of doing his own cleaning when he was asked !!

Seems a shame to me. They have their princess day then become someone's property...handed over from parents to Spouse...having to ask before they are allowed to so much as walk down the shops.

That wedding must've cost at least a hundred grand...I think her name was Bridget..the one with the disney cake.....where on earth did her mother get the money from on disability?????

None of my business i spose..but i did wonder. x

I love the programme,

I PMSL at the brides mother last week, her skin was so tanned (a la sun bed or Costa de dark bottle tan ) she had light whitish lippy on , bleached hair & dressed like a tart LOL !

Last nights bridesmaids looked soooo trashy it was jaw droppingly awful.

The show keeps us in fits the next day at work.

As for grabbing we see a very mild harmless version in the playground, only now we realise far from being chase & grab (or IT), its a mimic of what the older boys in the community do.

The show has really opened our eyes.

What I didnt understand was why the eldest Daughter has to do all the chores and look after the younger children.

What are the mothers doing?

I watched it last night for the first time .
inbetween running for the loo lol
and like Muffy if one of them girls had been my daughter
the fella would have known all about it the next morning .
i know it's their way of doing things , but it just seemed to be
a rough way of doing it , and as stray says some of the girls were so provocitive...but then as each girl left to marry ..the younger one had to take over the chores of cleaning the home and been taken out of school
that i think was /is bad i liked the girl who worked in the wedding cake shop who said she wasnt going to marry until she was ready to .

i think its a terrible tradition, and must be awful for some of the young girls,
saying that some of the ages and clothes the girls wear shocked me, and the way they girate "sp" when they dance very provocitivly eeek!

but i love the show, lol,

That made me feel uncomfortable last night too - the last time it was being discussed, I seem to remember the girls talking about it were quite excited but that's only a vague recollection.

Apart from that, love the programme, love the people:))))

Morning Muffy and all:-) I dislike nearly everything about that programme, and thought that the 'grabbing' was nauseating,...but would not miss watching it! lol BCXX

Muffyxx Report 2 Feb 2011 10:27

The fact that it scares them and they don't like it though kind of negates the fact that they know it's going to happen, to my mind Marilyn....one of those boys literally dragged the girl along by her hair !!!

I can only think she is someone's daughter...and if she had been one of mine he wouldn't be walking without immense pain after I'd finished with him the next morning !!!

It's interesting in a way Marilyn I do agree...but I was horrifed by a lot of what I saw..not just the grabbing x

Hi Muffy.

Yes it was a bit daunting to see the ( grabb) but on the other hand ALL these young women do know that this happens at functions .....so must be in their thoughts at any time............It is to KISS these girls hopefully........ nothing else !! Hmmm.

I still like watching the program ....

I bowed to my curiousity last night and watched this...the endless comments from friends on facebook, after previous episodes, proved to much for me !!! lol

OH and I watched it and were sickened by the *custom* of men *grabbing* women. It actually made me feel physically sick when I watched it. OH had to leave the room as his ranting meant I couldn't actually hear what was going on !

Anyone else watch it? What were your thoughts ? xx
