Thinking of changing suite - nothing wrong with it (would see our time out!!) but I need something with a higher seat. Looked at G plan and needed a lie down, not only when I looked at what it would cost nowadays to replace a lot of our furniture bearing in mind about 10 years ago I had to give away a tv/video cupboard in mint conditon to a charity sale!! |

When my Mum needed a higher chair, the Social Services came and put wooden blocks under each leg for her to raise it to a better height, and an elderly neighbour had the same thing done. I think too you can buy heighteners from mobility shops to use on beds or chairs etc. |

Could you not just buy one higher chair to match the existing suite Chris? |

It is not so much the chair as the settee! I sit on that more as I can spread the remotes, phone, books beside me - not enough room unles I use 2 coffee tables. I asked OH to guess what it would cost to replace just our dining table and chairs (still same design being made) and he was no where near. |

Chris, some of the appliances about for highering a chair or settee do provide for castors, or they could be taken off. I am in the same position, have a high seated suite , but it is going home, joints getting loose and coverings going, but canr get anywhere that I cansee a good selection. Would favour some victorian furniture, which was not so big, as we have little space. If you have a friend who is a handy person, they could make you what you need easily. My OH did it for my sister. |

You are right Ann. Diane that is worth looking at. Our bed is fine, it is high. Luckily our suite is of a traditional style so not low. Son bitterly complains about height of settees, he is nearly 6' and has a back problem. |

Chris, hope you can sort it out. Maybe if you have someone nearby who is handy with carpentry skills they could make you enough wooden blocks with a sort of round well carved out to hold the casters, then you can have them made the exact height that you need. |
