Hi Ann,

Have spoken to OH again . There are two ways of wiring an alarm in.

1) wire for alarm may be spliced into the existing loom

2) alarm may be wired 'in series' with the existing loom.

If 2, you may have a spare wire that was feeding the indicaters and wipers. If you locate a spare wire, you will need to find where it came from and rejoin. My OH feels brake lights are a separate issue because they are staying on.

If 1, there should be no fault as you have only taken the alarm wire out and not interfered with anything else.

Susan

PS: OH said a call out fee of first class return to the UK will be just fine. LOL

Thank you for replying and trying to help.
Von, No it is not the micro switch thanks.

Sue, he bypassed the alarm and has not to his knowledge let any wires unjoined. I think he checked the fuses, will get him to have another go tomorrow morning (9.10pm here now. The brakes are still working it is just the brake lights staying on and the indicators and wipers not working.

Thank your OH please Sue.

No expert Ann but we had a similar problem with the brakes on our Polo. The micro switch under the foot pedal wasn't releasing properly.
Worth checking just in case.
Hope he manages to sort it for you
Take care

Hi Anni,

OH an auto electrician. He says by removing the alarm, did your OH just cut a wire away from the cars wiring or did he leave some of the wiring unjoined?

He suspects the reason brakes etc not working maybe something left unjoined. Check all the fuses for starters. Check the brake light switch too.

It could be coincidental if yur OH hasn't cut any wrong wires.

My OH has now gone to work so there endeth the lesson - sorry.

Hope you get it sorted.

Husband had a problem with the alarm on my golf. He managed to disconnect the alarm, siren etc because it was constantly flattening the battery. Car not worth enough really to warrant an elaborate alarm. Car engine now starts OK. Doors all lock, central locking OK.

But, He is flummoxed because now the brake lights are permanently on and the windscreen wipers and indicators won't work.

I have to add he is OK with electrical things, not an amateur but this has beaten him.

Anyone got any ideas? If not we will have to call somebody out.
