Dont know but my great auntie was called Nellie ...but her birth name was Ellan

My late Mum was a Dorothy, she was usually called Dot, or Dolly.

Could have been a nickname. My Grandmother was Eva but was called Cissie by some.

In Little Women, Meg (really Margaret) is referred to as Daisy by one character, as a pet name. Apparently it was because the French for "daisy" is "marguerite".

Perhaps the song was named after her.

I had a cousin Dorothy, she was called Doff by the family.
The other Dorothy's I know are called Dot or Dolly by their families.

I had an Aunt Daisy, registered and christened as Daisy
