i have just been trying for a marriage , and tried one which matches the one i wont, it came up with his name and the date, but for the spouses surname, it came up with not available before 1912, i dont get this because the marriage i wont is in 1837, could anyone expliane please,

the marriage i am looking for is pontypool in the 3rd quarter, in 1837 for thomas morris, registration distict monmouthshire volume no, is 26, volume page is 117

From freebmd - I think the page number is 127 if you look at the orginal
Marriages Sep 1837 (>99%)
MORRIS Thomas Pontypool 26 1[12]7

Because of the [ ] you don't get a result for the other people on the same page as you would if there was no problem - you click on the page number.
But by leaving the names on the search form blank, selecting Sep 1837-Sep 1837 Reg district Pontypool and vol 26, page 127, you can get the following results

Marriages Sep 1837 (>99%)
DAVIES Elizabeth Pontypool 26 127
JONES Mary Pontypool 26 127
KEAR Ann Pontypool 26 127
LEWIS John Pontypool 26 127
ROBINS Sarah Pontypool 26 127
SIMS Daniel Pontypool 26 127
WILLIAMS William Pontypool 26 127
WILLIAMS William Pontypool 26 127

At this period, you'd expect to get 8 people to the page, but in this case, WILLIAMS William is duplicated, making room for your Thomas Morris.

If you have a first name for his wife, I hope it helps

lol canniennie you 1st made me laugh with the I am trying for a marriage I was tempted to say I wish you well ! lol

Anyway I see the problem you are having so what year was Thomas Morris married and if we can work out his wife's 1st name on the 1841 hopefully we can sort out her surname from the BMD

upps Det I meant 117 not 112 either way mind it means cannieannie has a whole more to look at ...mind like you I am more tempted to go for 127
