I haven't really found that they are Desmond? maybe you have been unlucky, but try not to let it put you off, most people are very grateful for any help with their trees.

Hi Desmond
Sort of know what you mean but I haven't experienced this. I am fairly new to researching and need as much help as I can get. I have such simple questions sometimes on the general researching technique but don't feel I should bother others, wish there was a simple guide somewhere. Any ideas? Would it be worth the price of a ticket to the Ancestry show at Olympia in a week or so?

Desmond, I think you've been unlucky, and without people like you passing on their knowledge I would have got nowhere.

Tina, it doesn't matter if the questions you ask are simple or not thats what the boards are for so ask away. Most people are happy to help if they can.

Oh Desmond, I have been helped by so many people and it continues even now, I have also been able to help others occasionally. What amazes me is that sometimes people do not have the courtesy to say thanks.. but it takes all types.

Tina please do ask your questions on here no matter how simple you think they are. We all had to start sometimes and most of us are not really experts. All our knowledge is learned by experience or on here.

Desmond I do know what you mean but some people have been let down by others, i.e. by giving information then not being given any back, so are very wary. Not everybody is nice unfortunately even in genealogy.

I have been given masses of information (which tend to treat as unverified until I have checked with other sources if possible) and to do likewise.

But if I give information to others I do not automatically expect something in return.

Why re-invent the wheel?
