Baptismal records usually have the parents' names and birth certificates have, at the least, the mother's name.

Marriage certificates have the names of the fathers of the bride and groom (unless they are illegitimate).

Before 1837 it's more difficult to find the parents' names at marriage but if the parties were "of this parish" you may find their baptisms.

I'm doing a bit of indexing for family.org and if marraige records from
the 1700s Norfolk are anything to go by, parent names were rarely, if ever present.

There are ways and means of finding the parents but sometimes it takes a little bit of lateral thinking, but hey, thats what this game is about.
If you are stuck on how to progress, someone will always try to help- jle

What I find really frustrating is that so many of these records do not show the name of the parents.

Without knowing the parents name you can't trace backwards into your family tree.
