I too have noticed that in many cases of nasty postings, it seems that the people involved have met personally away from here. Perhaps some of them carry the friendship too far and cause "familiarity breeds contempt".

Friends Reunited have a system where if the Review button is pressed, the offending post is whisked off the screen and not returned until it has been investigated. I saw one some time ago, where a man was extremely rude and a few people hit the button all at the same time. His post was removed immediately, then suddenly, all of his posts disappeared and he was no longer a member. He is back again now, but unable to contact anyone who was posting on that thread at the time - and they can't contact him either.

As none of us know each other, unless we choose to do so, any sort of aggravation is virtual and nobody is obliged to read it. If somebody were to become confrontational it is easy to just not read their thread unless you wish to take it further.

Then,of course,it can be quite entertaining for the rest of us!

I think it would be quite difficult to have members here moderating posts as we all have different ideas as to what we consider as offensive.

I personally dislike it when there is a good discussion that turns into a nasty backbiting name calling argument, I tend to keep away from those.

I also dislike the boring posts that have been on here for ages....A-Z of this and that, but other member seem to like them.

I understand that some members get comfort from putting up threads about all their illnesses and problems, but there are also members who dislike those king of threads.

I, again find any thread where the member spout on about religion annoying, but then again some members are happy to discusses religion.

My point being is that everyone is different and what one finds as OK, another may find annoying or distasteful., so very difficult for a member to moderate. as we all have different ideas as to what is and what is not acceptable.

I know there are T&C on here, but who is to implement them, not members, as there just might be one who would set him or her self up as judge and jury.

I expect the powers to be will eventually sort out this problem, but if we do get a moderator I really hope it wont be a member but someone directly employed by GR.

AnninGlos....good one:o)

l did ask that they don't delete and ban unless they have checked the offending post and person as best they can. In the past it seems people have been banned without proper reasoning.
It would be nice to have something in place........and yes it has been alot better on here anyways:o))

I too can see their point. My suggestion on the survey was that, if they can't have moderators (as we know they have said before they can't) Can't they have somebody, needn't be the same person every day. Who just runs an eyes over the threads. it is usually easy to spot trouble. they could then put up a warning or delete the thread. Just knowing that somebody might pick it up might be enough of a deterrent.

A compromise would be to have one person employed until say, midnight, GMT to respond immediatley to RRs and to read and delete the offending posts (if they agree) so as to nip something in the bud. By allowing them to remain over the weekend or until the next day, it only adds fuel to any dissent.

Isn´t it nice to know that we´re trusted though.?.
We´ll have to wait & see, but personally I can´t see anything changing.
