It brought tears to my eyes

Went to do a little food shop today and daughter asked me if I would pick up her prescription from Te*co and drop it at the play centre nearby, where she had taken my grandchildren.

As I sat alongside her, little man noticed me and came running 50mph towards me fliging his arms around me, "hello my lovely nannie" he says and then telling anyone who would listen that I was his nannie and we watch Pinochio together.......funny how the small things in life give you so much pleasure.

I'm so jealous....

No little man or little lady here. And no sign of one coming, either.

It's impossible to be a grandparent to a career.

We are a great bunch of softies!

Sue..........my daughter was 35 when she had little man, she is a secondary teacher and 37 when she had my grandaughter who is 5 months now.....so never say never!

Deborah.......So sorry for your loss, how heartbreaking for you and your grandaughter.......I bet you both have a really special relationship.

Susan........stop sniffing!! lol

It would be nice to think that they have lovely memories of us when we are no longer here, as I have of my grandparents. I was 38 when the last of my grandparents died........I thought my heart would break. How lucky was I to have him so long.

Oh yes Sue.........we must not forget the grandads! My OH is a builder and little man I think may follow in his footsteps.........he loves all the machinery and last week was on site with his grandad driving a mini digger on his own! When I saw the footage I nearly had a heart attack, think OH nearly did as well when little man nearly took his grandads head off with the mechanical bucket!

How lovely Ann. Deborah so sad for your and gdau but your dau lives on in her little girl. Bless you both.

G.children are a joy. Our two are in their twenties now! OH up until he was about 58 rode a motorbike. Gson from he was about 15 mths old had to sit on the bike in the carport. He was about 3 when we began to take him to scrambles etc. I was allowed to go until he was about 7 and then was told I could make the butties etc to go but that this was only for boys!!

Our garage is on a service road and next to no traffic - one day OH promised our two next time they came he would take them for a little ride on his bike. Day came - bike is rolled out and a plastic safety helmet is produced by one of them! Duly put on and sat in front of OH for short slow ride on the road, loud shrieks of delight. Ride finished - the other's turn and safety helmet solemnly passed over and off the other one went. I can see that scene as if it was yesterday.

Occasionally they will still go to a bike meeting but gson took golf up at age of 11 and OH encouraged him as did his father. He has a single handicap now but April -Oct still has a game of golf each month with his grandad whose handicap is definitely in double figures! Grandad's are important. Our two usually greet him with 'Gramps you are a legend' and he loves it.

Hello Chrissie,

Motorbikes are a no no in our house, OH hates them. He has been involved in a couple of accidents, both times the biker rounding a bend and losing control.

However the guy I used to date before OH had one and I loved it, in those days we did not always wear helmets either......... thinking about that now it was a really stupid thing to do..........nothing like tearing down the horseshoe pass on a summers evening!!

Hi Ann,

He had 3 accidents in his life, the first was when a lorry came straight out of a side road, his girlfirend (at that time) was screaming under the lorry
and he ended up with a 6" plate in his leg (his long rider boots saved his leg). The second was in his mid forties coming home and waiting at a filter junction turning left but a car pushed him in to the middle of the main road and the third on a large roundabout whereby a bus 'cut him up' and off he came. Last one left him with no backside in his trousers and I got a call - come to work and bring a pair of trousers - my mind went into overdrive!!!!!!

As a family when any of us drove a car we were used to watch the biker - like cars there are good drivers and bad!

I was cringing reading that Chris......I would not be able to sleep at night if my son was out on a bike..........I worry enough with him in his car!

Merlin......yes you are right there, my boyfriend had a Harley the envy of all! It was a lovely bike and we went all over Wales during the time I was with him..........lots of lovely memories..........he is 61 now and belongs to a motorbike club ...........so it is in his blood.

My brother was transferred to the Police motorbike unit, and he had a nasty accident during training........a lift in the road had caused him to leave the bike at 90mph........he damaged his shoulder, and if it was not for the excellent protection gear ( they get special fitting leathers etc) it would have been a lot worse!
