One of my ancestors died in hospital, it gives a name for the informant and it says Causing the body to be buried in the qualification box, it doesn't say the relationship my ancestor may have had with this person, nor does it say what her profession is, I know my ancestor was married but there is nothing about his wife or son, would this be normal practice for a hospital death, it was in 1976. thank you for reading this and i hope someone can help me. sue.

Hello Susan,

Try the Bereavement Services Dept at the local Council Offices,as to what their procedures are. I think PP may be correct in saying that it looks like he died with no next of kin being contacted. It is one of the first questions asked when entering hospital, maybe he said he had none??

Find out about cems/crems close to the hospital where he died, and ring them to see if they have him on record. As you have the date he died this would not involve a difficult search.

This may be a starting point:

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council administers
its burial and cemetery service from Worting Road Cemetery office. The Cemetery Officer oversees the day-to-day running of the borough’s municipal cemeteries as well as recording and registering all burials that occur within them.

The Council prides itself in delivering
a professional and caring service provided by competent and sympathetic staff. The service aims to ensure all funerals are organised and conducted to people’s wishes in a dignified and reverent manner.

There is often some uncertainty about burial and bereavement services, so below are some frequently asked questions with simplified answers.

A more in depth explanation can be obtained from the Cemeteries Officer.

If you have any enquiries or if you would like a copy of the regulations please contact the Cemetery Officer at the address below.

Looks like the crem is not council owned

Crematorium
Basingstoke Crematorium is not owned by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, but is privately owned and managed by Dignity Funerals Ltd. Please follow the link to the Dignity website for full details and a location map for the Crematorium

Susan
Have a look on the Tips or records board. Someone on there is offering
to do look ups for burials. They have the NBI 3 I only have NBI 2.
This might give you an indication re burial or cremation to start with. The advice given above to contact the Cemetery Officer is good.

Good luck
Pat

I believe that at that time, the nearest crematorium would be Southampton or Aldershot.
