Good tip Sharron.

thanks BC, that isn't too bad for a large town is it? When we stayed there on the way into town from the hotel I had to pass a leather shop (jackets and bags etc). Every time I went past the owner would run out and kiss my hand saying things like beautiful lady (flannel of course). But he was so attractive I bought a leather jacket!!! A bit more expensive than a meal. OH was working so I was out on my own and have to add this was about 20 years ago.

Sorry,don't know about Florence but could I just contribute this bit of wisdom.

I read in a very old book that counting to a thousand was a surefire way to get to sleep and it has worked for me on occasion.

Yes Ann, I always eat wherever I go! In fact I think I eat every two hours..lol...I was so lucky in that the trattoria which my hosts recommended was just round the corner and the food was great and within budget. A bonus was the eccentric owner who sang while he worked and kissed my hand when I entered. What more could a gal ask for. With main meal, wine and ice cream (not to be missed) it came to about 20 Euros. Other times I grabbed a slice of pizza, BCXX

My lighting is always soft and dim, Ann, in fact others seem to fall over things in my home but I find it soothing! The thing is, though, and it goes against all the theories, I have always slept with a light on somewhere. And I sleep soundly, well with the help of my little pill:-) lol BC XX

A tip I have seen recently;

Insomnia

Scientists have discovered that indoor lighting suppresses the production of the hormone melatonin, which governs sleepiness, blood pressure and glucose. Exposure to it before going to bed could stop you nodding off and even bring on diabetes. Being under electric lighting in the usual hours of sleep cuts melatonin by over fifty per cent. Insomniacs are advised to dim the lights for a couple of hours before bedtime - try it and see if it works!
