Dizzi

I do remember my daughter many years ago going on a ski trip
to Italy. We did not have much money at the time but the school encouraged parents to pay a little each month in advance. However, as you say it does not stop there. There is the all the clothes and spending money.

Probably we could not really afford it but like today felt a certain pressure not to have her miss out on what her friends were doing.

Hope you are feeling better

Regards

Vera

IT JUST SEEMED WAY TOO MUCH TO ME,
THEIR OTHER DAUGHTER IS 14 SO IN 2 YEARS TIME
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST,COME SUMMER HOIDAYS
THEY DDONT KNOW IF THEY WILL BE ABLE TO GO AWAY AND I THINK ITS PRESURE ON PARENTS AS THEY FEEL GUILTY,I KNOW BECAUSE I HAD TO SAY NO TO BOTH OF MINE GOING ON A CRUISE TRIP,WE
WERE MADE TO FEEL THAT IT WAS A VITAL PART OF THEIR EDUCATION,WE MANAGED FOR ONE TO GO TO THE ISLE OF WHITE BUT NOT THE OTHER AND THEEY HAD LESSONS EEVERY AFTERNOON SO THAT WAS PART OF THEIR EDUCATION.

It is difficult, isn't it? Although ours did go on few of the cheaper 'holidays', the more expensive ones they paid for themselves, once they were old enough to get a Saturday job.

One of the children even told us about a trip to Italy (we'd had our first 'foreign' family holiday there a few years before) but said that although she would like to go, she knew we couldn't afford it and she wasn't earning.

The middle one had to wait until he was in year 12 before he could afford to go skiing - he'd give me 50% of his Saturday wages for nearly a year to be paid in. Now he is earning a good wage, he goes most years.

They are all now Globe Trotters - probably a deprived childhood - lol

Anyone want a pair of used (ex hire to start with) Salopettes to fit a 17 year old??? Seriously, if anyone does, I'll measure them up properly.

Our 3 went on foreign exchange trips to Germany staying in the home of their penfriend and going out on organised day trips with their own schoolfriends and sometimes with their hosts. They also joined in a couple of lessons in the German school too.
Later in the year, the exchange partner stayed with us

I guess this wouldn't be allowed nowadays, but they all still talk about the great experience.

None of them went on 'adventure' hoildays as such though.
