I think that the number after the dot, is the distance to the nearest emergency telephone.........which I believe are at 1 Mile intervals
so if its 2 then its better to walk back.....??

if its 8 then its nearer to walk forwards......

Bob

edited it now seems to be that our motorway marker posts are in kilometres, not miles,(thought I was wrong, earlier)

I'm not a driver, so what do I know, but I too have noticed similar on motorways.
I think the B will give a direction, A would be on the opposite carriageway.

I guess they are location markers to guide emergency services or similar.

Travelling north on the M5 at very frequent intervals are 'marker' signs e.g. M5 B 88.2. I know this is probably mileage to the junction of the M6 but what does the B stand for anyone know? As we leave the motorway the exit lane splits, one says M5 T and the mileage and the other has another letter. Are they references for the emergency services?
