Newtown is not too far from Soberton, but I don't know the age of the church there.

It's maddening not being able to find John's baptism. Their parishes cover quite an area. Do you know his parents and their occupation....... just wondering if we are likely to be talking sea or country parish here?

I'm missing a vital baptism, probably in the Beaulieu area for someone born c. 1812, but although I've trawled through the parish records on fiche plus the surrounding parishes, he still hasn't been found :-(

Not to worry have done some research and find the church was being used for BMD' s

Hi All,
Does anyone have an answer to this:
1. if a church is NOT a parish church can baptismals and marriages take place there.
I am looking for ancstors who lived in the Soberton area of Hampshire, which had a church from the 1100's....but did not become a parish church till 1897 ! It would appear to come under Droxford. Would it have been a chapel ? My anchestors seem to have used Wickham, Hambledon and Alverstroke parish churches for marriages and baptismals....but there is one person, John Ings b.abt 1779 I can't find a baptismal records for.
