My grandfather was born here in 1916. How can I find the record of this as I need his mothers maiden name? I am a bit stuck with my tree so any help will be appreciated. Thanks

scotlandspeople.gov.uk have all the records for births in scotland.

Fiona is right about not being able to view the images but it might be possible to find the right birth. There is a Castle registration district in Edinburgh.

Did he marry in Scotland? If so, it might be easier to find his marriage registration. Scottish marriage certs give both parents' names.

Have you looked for his father's WW1 Army Record, as that would probably give details of his marriage.

If you still can't find anything, you could start a thread on the Records or Trying to Find boards, giving as much info as you can and there are a lot of people on there with experience of searching Scottish records.
