I have searched Snopes and can't find anything against this on but don't know how true it is. However, if you want to try it here it is.......

YOU CAN HELP GET JOBS BACK TO THE UK

Did you know that you have the right to speak to a UK person when you call a company for a service or whatever.

I have done this when I simply could not understand the person talking to me.

However, I never realised that this is a proactive way of bringing jobs back to the UK.

Do the following when you phone any customer service operation that is based in a foreign country. I have done this twice and it works!

Any time you call a company about a problem with a credit card, bank account, computer, product, etc and you are answered by a person in a call centre abroad, e.g. in India, try this:

As soon as you realise that the customer service person is not in the UK (you can always ask if you are not sure about the accent), please very politely (very politely - this is not about trashing other cultures) say, "I'd like to speak to a customer service person in the United Kingdom."

The rep might suggest talking to his/her manager, but, again, politely say, "Thank you, but I'd like to speak to a customer service person in the UK .."

YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED to a rep in the UK.. It only takes a few seconds to have your call re-directed to the UK .

Tonight when I was redirected to a UK rep, I asked again to make sure - and yes, she was in Swansea.

Imagine if tomorrow, every UK citizen requests a UK rep, how that would impact the number of extra UK jobs needed.

Imagine what would happen if every UK citizen insisted on talking to only UK phone reps from this day on.

Remember - the goal is to restore jobs back here at home - not to be abrupt or rude to a foreigner.

Someone posted this last week on a local forum I use.

Haven't tried it yet but may give it a go next month when my car insurance is up for renewal. It may stop me from repeating " sorry, what did you say? I can not understand you" over and over again.

Hullo Ann, funny you should post on this topic, only this morning I had to contact AOL to cancel a premium service, I felt SO sorry for the poor guy on the other end, dont know if he was irish but as I am quite deaf, with his thick accent it was quite a while before I got to understand what he was saying.......trouble was I COULD have done it online, but..........the memorable question was when did I marry?..........simples....... every one knows when they married, dont they? but just try remembering the format you wrote the date in.................no way could I remember

all sorted now though!!

I had run in with someone from HSBC today who phoned, they asked if I was Mrs **** or so I thought , I said I was, but asked why where they phoning me as I didn't bank with them. I didn't get into the realms of asking to speak to a customer service person in the UK.
It transpired that they wanted to speak to my dau... We obviously didn't understand each others accents.
They couldn't pronounce my dau's first name clearly. Dau and I both have the same second name and surname, but she is a Miss.
It became quickly clear to me that they were phoning to market some product, when I asked them to write to her, but they wanted a time that they could contact her which I refused to give.
When I dialled 1471 to get the number and then rung it ,it came up as not recognised.
Ooh I do love a bit of phone banter, tho I am not argumentative.
