You do have a hard descion to make, and not one to take lightly.

If the condition is one for which there is no early preventative treatment, I'd be inclined to leave things as they stand.........especially as you have said you don't want to cause 'hurt'. If they are half siblings, it is always possibly that the hereditary factor came from the other parent.

However, if it is one which can be alleviated if caught early enough, then may be it would be right to contact them. If you went down this route, you could either ask someone else to provide the introduction, or contact them on the basis of family research, but certainly not starting off with 'I am your sister/half sister'. Then build up a rapport and take it from there.

If your Consultant suggested you advise blood relative, that should be taken into account.

Good luck in what ever you decide.

I am in a real quandary. I have always known I was adopted - very happily so. My adoptive parents sadly are dead. I believe I have traced siblings. I also believe that my birth mother may have died. I don't wish to cause anyone any pain. I always thought I would like to look from a distance. However, I now have hereditary health conditions which I feel I should advise them of. Just doing a trawl here from you experienced folks. What are your feelings? Thanks for your time.
