I had an answer 6 years after I sent my message, it turned out he is in the forces so didn't check very often, it was who I was looking for and our trees are filled out a bit more. Was certainly worth the wait.

It is disapointing when the info they give you doesn't help, better luck on the other 2.

They can't - there is no concept on GR of someone who is no longer a member. You only cease to be a member if you remove your details from the site completely.

Otherwise you fall into one of the four categories of membership available for the Genes Reunited Service:

(A) Free Membership;
(B) Standard Membership; or
(C) Gold Membership (only available as a renewal option for existing Gold members); or
(D) Platinum Membership

The trouble is that you don't have to be a paid member to have your tree on Genes. All you can do is wait and hope that the person you are trying to contact will eventually come back to the site and open your message.

I once waited 8 months for a reply to a message and I know other people have waited even longer. You just have to be patient.

I did make that suggestion on the survey or to give some idea when a member last posted BUT was reminded by my sister that although she did join she never posted on the threads so no one would be aware if she was still active or not ,
I think Genes would have to indicate whether members were still paid up or not BUT then that woukd knock their claims on membership numbers.

I have made contacts through HOT MATCHES with members who have never posted on threads but still have subs

yes i seen that Kath but loads of them that i have contacted havent opened them and its so annoying not knowing if they are members or not. Its just if they have some kind of icon next to them it would save us wasting our time. Debbie

You always know if they have opened your message because the purple envelope will turn white. There is nothing GR can do to force people to reply if they don't want to.
