I still have all my reports from 1947 to 1951. I have them because my Mum couldnt be bothered to open them. That tells you why my last year one was the worst I had, being told you should leave school and get a job continually doesnt help. Dad had signed for me to stay till 16.

I cant remember if my report said..........Prickles is a STAR pupil.
Or.....
If Prickles spent less time in the bicycle shed and more time in the classroom, her grades might improve.
I might not be very well ejucated............but boy, can ride a bike bare back!!! :>))

Cooper Report 25 Feb 2011 18:34

My reports were not very good, "tries hard" was the comments on most of them.

I was told I should apply to work in a factory or shop by the teachers in careers,

I didnt........

I went to college, and then three years training in to a career which I have been in for 30 years and god willing will continue for the next 17.

I know what I would like to say to those teachers!!!!!

I've got about 3 from my high school...(no more than that because of all the teachers strikes in the late 80s they didn't write reports as a result...thank god) !!!

First year in high school..model pupil..will go far blah blah

By year 4...lacks concentration...more interested in childish behaviour and chatting than school....lively and gregarious...whilst creditible aspect of my personality not condusive to school work. ....I'd *found* boys by then...sadly. lol x

I don't think I have any school reports .But the one that sticks in my mind is my friend.I went down to her house one day after we had taken our reports home and hers was stuck to the kitchen table with a knife through it.I don't think her Mum was too happy with the report lol

Rose,

I admire any parents who undertake the education of their children, and I wish your son all the best for the future. To be honest I feel that my friend who was 'home educated' had far more opportunity to interact socially, than those of us who were imprisoned in our schools :). I remember a few people tutting over the fact that this family 'home educated ' their children, but equally others had a lot of respect for the commitment made. All three children have done well in the professional sense, but more importantly they have grown into 'happy' and 'well-balanced' people.

Piers, I home educated my son, well he educates himself now really as he's 15 but I've been doing it since he was 8.

People tend not to understand that it's not necessarily the same as a 'classroom' just transfered to the home, and you do get lots of negative comments ,repeated questions ( mostly about 'social interaction') and most people think you are a bit 'odd' lol, but there are lots of people who choose to do it who are quite 'normal' ;)

My school reports were nothing to be proud of and I'm only too glad that they weren't 'filed' away. Actually they were probably used to light the fire lol.
My best friend was 'home educated' and boy did I envy him. Learning wasn't about sitting in a classroom gobbling up lots of information, but rather about exploring the world in an active way. I absolutely detested school and wished that I could be 'educated' in this way - my parents would have none of it lol

'C' for PE ( physical education) "Tries hard" lol...always last to be picked for team games, didn't ever see the point of getting wet and muddy doing something that I was useless at.

I loved all the academic subjects though, if school had been just about those I would have liked it and stayed longer lol.

Oh dear even if I had the reports, which I do not I would not admit so as they were awful. I can even confess that on several occasions I got to the postman first and burnt them!!!! I convinced mum that they were not sent out...goodness knows what she would have done if i told her the truth. however still managed to get my 4 A levels and good grades ...
