We took our springer merlin to the vets yesterday. He has not been too well and I wanted him checked over. For a male dog who pees at every corner, I had a 10 minuet walk carrying a dish looking a right pratt to catch about a teaspoonful. At the vets he was examined and the vet found that one side of his prostrate was enlarged. He said this could be due to an infection or he could have prostrate problems. Now, my oh has prostrate cancer and he was overjoyed that his dog had possibly the same (how weired). Anyway the vet gave the dog antibiotics and some pills to reduce testosterone 7 days pills will keep the level down for about 5 months before he needs more. Can you understand a man who is happy that his dog has got the same problem as he has. Elaine.

to take a water sample from a dog you need
to take a large wod of cotton wool and a plastic bag
when the dog starts to wee
throw the cotton wool down and pick it up with the plastic bag
cotton wool inside the bag then when you get home
squeeze the bag and cotton wool in to a plastic bottle

and water sample ready for the vet to test

No Elaine but in a sadistic sort of way i kind of hope the prostate surgeon who done my op back in april has to have it done to him one day so he REALLY knows what it's like !!

MCB, I know what you're saying yes I've had ops when I've wished the medical staff could just feel the pain so they knew how I felt. But to be glad your best friend has it (poor old dog) just because you have is awful. Hope you are on the mend, it is not a nice op at the best of times and with complications it is something you could do without.Elaine.

We had a diabetic cat (and my OH is diabetic too). The vet wanted to put him down (the cat, not the OH, lol) and said that he would not live for more than 3 weeks. We had to give him injections twice a day but he lived for a further 18 months and died at the age of 17.

Elaine, surely you aren't surprised at your o.h.'s reaction? He sounds as tho he has a similar odd mindset to my o.h.
He came out with a revelation that was most inappropriate during our early days together, after I had told him about my daughter's birth and death. I won't reveal what he told me as not many people know and his sons and ex wife have no idea but it shocked and upset me, yet he seemed to think it might be comforting to me that he empathised. He really had no empathy in him. Should have known then that he was an idiot!

Mind your o.h. doesn't try taking Merlin's medication! Hope M. will be ok for a long time yet.

Merlin has taken 2 of the 7 tablets and today when I took him for a walk he had a male shih tzu trying it on with him. When I got in I said to my oh "do you find that men are chasing you"? he is on oestrogen injections. His reply was "they wouldn't have to chase me". He really meant he couldn't run away but I was creased up and he didn't know why.Elaine.

Hi, I think you're right about the bits and bobs, my oh would not let me have our males castrated but wasn't bothered about me having the females speyed. Elaine.
