Hi All

Is there any way to find out when a house was sold in 1910-1920, who it was sold by and to whom?

Any help would be appreciated

not sure you can.
I know all this information would be kept on the deeds, usually kept by the present housekeeper and it costs to have them taken out of the bank, unless the mortgage is paid for and the owner has it in the house.
other than that, not really sure.we looked at our deeds that were done in 1930 and quite interesting.

Researching:
Wood, Westnedge(spelling variants) padley, parkin, coulthard, (Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, ) Jenkinson,Pashley, Moss (America) Meechan, Meehan, Mofatt, (Scotland and Ireland)

Try the Land Registry Office for the area........I got a copy of my deeds a couple of years ago from them.

Hello Chrissey,

I recently applied to National Archives for the same type of info regarding my family home. The records you need are entitled:

Records of the valuation Office-Records of the Boards of Stamps, taxes, excise, stamps and taxes and Inland revenue.

The national Archives quoted me £19.70 to copy the relevant records. As yet I haven't got the records due to financial restraints.

The records should give details of the house sale, naming the vendor, buyer and purchase price, as far as I am aware.

I got all my details from the local council going back to the 1880s when the house was built, this was about a house in Essex. I have copies from day one and as I had the deeds when I sold the house I have the complete set,
The Land Registry details given on here are also vey helpful

Researching:
Wrenn, Ford, and many others!

It might be a little early to find anything at the Land Registry, which, under its present form, didn't come into being until 1925.

Even then it wasn't until well into the 50's and 60's that most areas started being registered automatically. For example my parents house bought in 1954 was not registered, so the LR have no record of it whatsoever.
