Hi, I recently came across a book about the village I was born in and was delighted to find a photo of my old school`s pupils from the 1940s. There was a picture of my uncle that I have not seen before, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any collections of old school photos that have been published. My relatives grew up in Suffolk,Devon,Cumbria and Lancashire. Thanks.

I had a gt grandfather Samuel Brown born 1869 at Oakhampton,and his siblings, brought up in the Jacobstowe,Sampford Courtnet area in the 1870s and 1880s.

Terry - have you looked on Friends Reunited? There are often photos attached to specific schools. My Mum has a copy of my Dad's school's magazine (1939) in which there are good pictures of the various sports teams. Old copies of school magazines may be held by the school, or alumni, if the school still exists.

Have you tried doing a search on 'Oakhampton schools' etc? Sometimes there are web sites with school photos on. There is of my old school.

Hi Terry - I actually live in Okehampton and we have an excellent museum here called the museum of Dartmoor life. They should be able to put you in touch with a local history group that has just started here.
