Hi I have found family on 1911 census records. Bridget Mullen, Catherine, Margaret, Thomas, Annie, Agnes and Edward living in Halifax as expected however I cannot trace any of them prior to that? 1901 census should show them somewhere? Bridget, Catherine, Thomas, Margaret and Annie were born before that census.

Also it shows Bridget as head of house but not widowed. No mention of Patrick her husband....

Any ideas anyone??

Any help appreciated I am newish to this ancestry lark lol!

Susan, could you give us their ages or d.o.b please? Also p.o.b. would help if you know it. They sound Irish.

I found them on 1911, also Patrick Mullen, Visitor, married, aged 55, b1856, Masons Labourer, b Sheffield, YKS. They seem to be all men, and visitors in that household, 6 Smithy St, Halifax.

Bridgets address was 22 Mason St Range Bank Halifax.

In 1901, the surname is MULLAN, except for the youngest child Ann who is MULLINS.

Patrick, 45, Stone Mason's Labourer, b Galway Ireland.
Bridget, 36, b Leeds as before
Catherine 13, Margaret 10, Thomas 8, Joseph 5 and Ann MULLINS aged 2. All b in Halifax.

Address is 18 Charlestown Rd. Sun Street, Halifax.

Wow this is great thank you! I can't believe how many different spellings of the surname there are on official documents!

On freeBMD I found the death of Joseph MULLINS aged 5 in Halifax, in the June quarter of 1902.

Do you want them on earlier censuses while I am 'on a roll'?

Yes please and thank you again. I did find Joseph as died, Bridget had a total of 11 children but only 6 survived. I 'think' Patrick was from Ireland but Bridget seems to have originated in Leeds (maiden name Ward).

Fantastic thank you - only other questions I am mulling over are...my family do not remember Edward or Thomas so presumed they died?

How do I find out more info on Patrick? Is there an Irish census we can access. I can't thank you enough for helping, will leave you be after this xx

1881 at 5 Helen Court, Leeds
WARD John, single, 23, colourer b Picklington YKS
Thomas, brother, 13, scholar Leeds
Mary, sister, 14 flax mill (?) Leeds
Bridget, sis. 14 " " Leeds

It looks as if Bridget had a twin.

In Leeds Union Infirmary
WARD Patrick, inmate, Widower, 56, Bricklayer, b Ireland

Births: WARD Bridget, Leeds, one in Mar quarter of '65, another in June quarter of '66
Ward Mary Ann, Leeds, Mar quarter of '64 and both a Mary and a Mary A in Leeds in June quarter of '66.

I would say the J quarter of '66 could be the twins.

1871 Census: Hemingways Yard, Leeds

WARD, Patrick, Head, 50, Labro b Ireland
Catherine, Wife, 50 Ireland
John, son, 14, Empl as a Woollen worker (?) b Leeds
William, son, 12 Empl. in a Paper Mill "
Mary , dau. 4 "
Bridget, dau, 4 "

So it definitely looks as if Mary and Bridget are twins.
