Jean That's the right Globe and yes The Lord Nelson (anothers Fullers pub) was round the corner on Enfield Rd ... can't really say if it was tattier at the time I knew them. Friends of mine took over The Nelson so I have spent a few nights behind that bar ! I used to live in Ealing (and also Hanwell) on Bond St. !

is it the globe that's on the corner nearest gt.west road.??

I remember it well, I used to go there quite a lot with my mum and stepdad, I lived down the road from there. wasnt the pub on enfield road called the nelson,? thought that pub was tattier than the globe.

lol Florence I always said to live in London and enjoy it it you had to be free and single..not sure about the young as I managed a few wild nights there the second time around.

The Globe is still a rock and blues venue with music Thursday, Friday and Saturdays The memories that place brings back. ..sticky floors, deafened ears, the odd beer soaked tops. Yup some really great nights out.

What a wonderful tale, Uzizi.

I have something similar.
About 10 years ago,my mum & I persuaded my sister (the only one who can drive) to come with us on a Genealogy searching holiday in Suffolk
My mum's grandfather was a market gardener, who, in his later life owned a greengrocer's shop in Aldeburgh.
During WWII, German planes, returning home after bombing missions further inland would drop their spare bombs before crossing the sea. Unfortunately, one of these bombs hit my ggrandfather's shop, killing him at the age of 90. The two shops either side of his were unscathed.

Well, whilst in Aldeburgh,we looked up & down the high street, to see if there was any evidence. I noticed one very new shop in the middle of two much older buildings. One was a sweetshop. I went inside and the propreiter was a very elderly lady.
I told her my ancestors came from the area, and asked her if she was living there during the war-yes she was,did she remember the bombing?-yes she did,and explained (what I already knew)about the shop next door (ggrandad's).

No names had been mentioned, I hadn't said I was with anyone.
My mum then walked into the shop- at which point the lady stopped talking and said to mum- 'Well you're definitely a B******' (that would be a surname, not an expletive!) B****** was the surname of my ggrandfather!!

A few years ago I was working in a pub in Ealing that was my Dads local and some old boy came in joking about that I reminded him of somebody ..We got to talking about where I had lived and he said he remembered a chap from my area in Sheffield called **** ***** who's Dad owned a building firm. yep that was my Dad but the old chap next to us said I know you and John we served in ****together.
I phoned dad and said I think you should get down here and yes all 3 of them knew each other, Dad and the 1st chap better as they had served together for quite awhile (and he told me many stories of a single dad). The chap who 1st spoke to me sadly died not long after I met him but he did tell me wonderful stories of him and Dad

edited my spelling error in the title
