There is the Albion pit in Ponty as well but not sure how far that was.

Sue, thank you for the info. I have just been looking at a website regarding the Abercynon Pits. Living in Winchester England, I didn't realise the distance between Abercynon and Pontypridd was so small, which has helped a lot because he was working as a Coal Miner Repairer Below ground in 1911 but living in Aberdare Road Abercynon. I had assumed he had moved away for work but obviously not.

Hi Lainey,
I don't live in Ponty but my ancestors were born there and still have relatives there.
I have looked it up and there is
Abercynon Pit which is within walking distance of Pontypridd.
It was called Navigation up until 1893.
I don't know if this is of any help.

I have a relative who worked as a coal hewer and lived at 40 Norton Road, Pontypridd, Glamorgan in 1901. Can some kind person please tell me the name of the coal mine he would have worked in?
