Amish Families

Heaven is more real for them and, no doubt, they see their passing as going to something better where they will meet later.

The thing I like best about the Amish is the fact they allow their children the choice of being Amish or not. They only practice adult baptism, All the adults in the community are there by choice.

I did have the privilege of visiting an Amish market on a Sunday some years ago in Canada. I did wonder at the time, when they went to church.

Worse than that I thought Liz was when it was revealed that the little girl with leukaemia, the father wanted to stop the treatment but resented the fact that the Law made him continue and the cost. Had he stayed with Amish the costs would have been covered.

I do not think I would have the courage to walk away and because of my convictions expose my child to possible death.

I found it interesting but wondered why all of the Amish attending the new church found it difficult to change their way of dress.

I recorded it and just watched it, was disappointed in that chap's attitude but it was because he wanted to spend his time preaching instead of working. I couldn't believe that when he prayed as that other woman gave birth prematurely, he asked that there wouldn't be too many tests done to cost a lot. Sadly the poor little mite died after an hour but I was glad that the woman's parents and sisters joined her for the funeral even tho it would have caused them trouble with the Amish lot.
I watched a series where young Amish people came to England for visits and that was interesting. The whole way of life is so different to that which we know and I was surprised that the youngsters are allowed to live as ordinary teenagers, having cars and doing all the things other teenagers do, yet most go back into the Amish life. I suppose it is because they would lose their parents and siblings if they decided to stay out in the world.

Takes all sorts I suppose but wouldn't suit me.

I don't think the young man in question was a "lazy so and so" as the programme said that he had always worked hard to provide for his family.

I must admit that I found his new ideas somewhat strange - the idea that "everything" would be handed down from heaven for him and his family.

The envelopes were filled with money and given by his new friends at his new church.

I find the Amish life intriguing from a historical point of view.
We must have been much like that until the King James Bible was produced - ie, you will do as 'we' (authority) say as only 'we' can understand the Bible -and we will make sure your education is minimal!

Having said that, some Amish communities still speak German.

What do you mean, envelopes? I wanted to watch this but a family birthday took us out.

The Amish are actually the only truly communist people in the world. For communism to work it is important that every body contributes to the common good. It is very fragile and easily corrupted and destroyed as was the case on St Kilda.

I think he might well have been a lazy so and so anyway and thought he might get a free ride outside.

Did anyone watch this tonight? I had watched the episode a couple of years ago and could understand their views then but after watching tonight and how they are coping feel that they would have been better off staying as they did not have the backing of family now and one young man felt that manna should rain down from heaven and provide. He appeared 'put out' that he had to work as the envelopes had stopped appearing!
