I've not long come back from my first walk with one of these groups.........and what a lovely time I had. :-))

I've been on medication for high BP for the past 18 months and then in January, after having an extremely bad chest infection, was told that I now have COPD (mild at the moment), so I knew that I really needed to make some changes to my lifestyle! I knew the changes to my diet and stop smoking weren't going to happen yet a while (if at all lol) but perhaps I could do a bit to help by taking some exercise.......instead of sitting here at the pc for hours on end lol.

So yesterday I Googled for a group in my area, found that there was a walk this morning close by and just went along. The volunteer walker was wonderful! She stayed with me the whole time and was very reassuring that we would walk at my pace, I didn't need to try and keep up with everyone else and that we could stop or finish the walk at any time if I felt I'd had enough. I have to say I didn't manage the whole hour......but I did manage 3/4 of an hour, so feel well pleased with myself. :-)))

So here I am, feeling really good and thinking isn't life wonderful. They say exercise is good for you, and do you know what? I think they could be right! LOL.

Well done Mary. I make myself walk most days for about half an hour and some days for longer, just round the village, but it is good to walk in a group, you will get to meet people too.

Hello all :-)

I used to have a dog to walk but since he died I've not really felt like just walking aimlessly on my own. :-(

I have some shops about a 15 minute walk from me, but to be honest, I just don't have any reason to go to them, so don't bother. At least with the walking groups they are mostly in nice surroundings, like the seashore or woods, not along a main road with lots of traffic plus being with other people somehow just makes you feel more secure.

I will keep it up, I'm just deciding which one to go to tomorrow lol.
