One thing that has surprised me about these ancestry search websites is that there is no life-time membership after a certain amount of payment has been made.

It's a bit of a disincentive for making the effort and spending the time to type-up all of the discovered relatives in ones family tree.

A few weeks later you discontinue your payments and drop out of the system, and all that effort is no longer of any use to you.

Your family tree of several hundred people is simply flushed away the moment you discontinue your payments.

I have more than a score of new names I could put up on my family tree, but with my discontinuing here within a few weeks, I don't feel very motivated to make the effort.

Is it just me who feels like this?

It took me 3 hours the other day to fill in my family tree with all the names I had on paper.

If you discontinue your payments, GR just drops you down to free membership.


Your tree stays as is, you can access it, you can add and delete names.

You can respond to pms sent to you through the system but you cannot initiate pms. You can even read the postings on these boards ....... but you cannot reply.


GR does not delete anyone for non-payment ........... because they have this free membership category.



I figure that the majority of the claimed over 11 million members are in fact free members!


You have to remove your tree yourself .......... it will stay here until the end of time ............ or the end of GR.

Whichever comes first!

Sylvia, you beat me to the response. i read this earlier this morning and felt that what you have just said but wanted to be sure.



Alan you should try again to see your tree, and good luck with your searching etc.
