Regarding an OPR Birth Image for the Parish of Mertoun (Berwick):

Does anyone know what the term "Hind" in the following record for Ebenezer Knox means?

"Ebenezer son of John Knox Hind in Brotherstone and his wife Janet Murray was born on the sixth day of December and was baptized on the 31st day of December 1816."

In all of the other entries on the page, the father's occupation follows the father's name. In one of the other entries it is noted "...Fisher in Dryburgh...".

My husband has ancestors from Northumberland who were Hinds. They were skilled farm workers who worked mainly with animals.
