Hi, Hoping someone can advise me. I know the father of Robert Cleverly born in 1822 in Melksham Wiltshire was Thomas Cleverly and mother was Elizabeth. From the research it looked like Elizabeth Butcher was the mother and Thomas Cleverly born in Broughton Gifford in 1787 was the father.
Looking through Ancestry the other day I found a Thomas Cleverly born in 1781 in Melksham married to a Elizabeth.
How do I know which one is the correct father of Robert?.
Hoping someone can help.
Kay

You'd need to see the death certs of Thomas as it will tell you who he was married to at the time of death.

Why not contact the tree owner and ask where they sourced the information ?

bu there would only be a death certificate if Thomas died after July 1 1837

name of husband may be on a woman's death certificate under "occupation"

man's death certificate does not often have wife's name

and someone else might be the informant

Hi,
Thank you for your input. Another thought came to me and I checked the IGI index for Thomas Cleverly. It has a Thomas Cleverly born 1781 in Melksham and spouse Elizabeth. Then it also has a Thomas Cleverly christened 1787 in Broughton Gifford which most people have as the father of Robert.
I wondered if Thomas was born in Melksham and the family moved and he was christened in 1787 in Broughton Gifford as sometimes it took a few years to get christened.
What do you think?
