Gdau wishes to grow herbs in pots - her ground floor flat has a patio but no garden.

I am thinking of mint and lemon balm (as we have some), flat leafed parsley, oregano, rosemary - that do as a starter pack or any other ideas?

Coriander, basil, sage, dill, thyme - all apparently simple to grow.

Good luck!

hi becareful when growing mint as can get out of hand very quickly i know mine when like a bomb as not picked to much, you have to repot it offen if you wont to keep it fresh looking or goes all woody.
to use quickly make tea out of them loverly.
chives are good if under window or by door as keeps flys away they dont like the smell, all you got to do is snip a few tops of and hey presto no more flys so serves two purposes.
remember most herbs like the sun.
all herbs will grow in pots as i had a herb garden all in pots looked a treat with all the different colour leaves

Not a herb, but nasturtium would make a lovely splash of colour and can be used in recipes.
Lavender in a pot would be great too.

Bay will also grow in pots.
My sister has a lovely bay tree in a pot that she grew from a small plant.

Hi All,

I grow all of my herbs in pots as I can keep then on the patio near to the house, for ease of picking.

Also some herbs, like mint and lemon balm are positively rampant when planted in the garden.

Lots of herbs are mediterranean in origin so will love the Spanish climate. Basil & Oregano especially.

Not strictly a herb..but a great fast plant to grow...cress.

Results within days (which of course matters where children are concerned lol) and lovely in an egg mayo sandwich so they can taste the fruits of their labours ! x

Dizzi like the idea of a large shallow pot , I have one, will try that myself. Was going to give it to her but OH pointed out it was made of stone/concrete and could cause damage to the normal car!
