Hi Jane.
Its my grandson's thumb. He has an appointment on Monday at East Grinstead to see if any more work needed on the tip. its pink on one side but still blue on the other so he may need a tissue and skin graft from a toe.

Thanks for asking.

Well done Shirley. It must feel good to have finally discovered what and when happened in his early years.

By the way how is your son's thumb?

Last July after many trawls through the 1911 I thought I may have located my FIL in a childrens home in Birmingham. He didnt speak much of his chidhood as he was very bitter that only he was put into a home. He thought it was Barnados but they have no record of him.
Anyway I googled and found the local Heritage site and emailed them , They replied they didnt have the records but passed my request on to an after adoption team. Having sent dads death cert and hubbys birth cert because of data protection we have waited patiently !!! (well not that patient cos was getting a bit frazzled at the lack of communiction from them)
Just received a reply and its HIM .not much info but does give his entry date into the Shenley Fields Cottage Homes in Oct 1905 ,so aged 4 years 2 months, and reason his mum was in hospital . He stayed till 1917 when he was put into a working boys school then in 1918 moved to supervised lodgings.
We do remember him saying he put in the home cos his mum died ,but she didnt cos info I have since been given by a family connection born in 1920 and knew her!! tells me she died c1932.

Dad did say he rememberd a lady visiting him once but we think this must have been his elder sister Maud who was 6 years older than him and was dumped on his mums elder sister.

Funny thing is the family knew about Maud ,of course, and knew there was another child but didnt know whether it was a boy or girl or what happened to the child.

His parents werent married as his dad was already married .

We are dead chuffed though to get this info on dads early life that was a mystery.

Cant help thinking though poor little lad to be separated from his family at aged 4 ,Can imagine him asking wheres my Mum ???
