i feel quite hard done by as my car tax ran out at midnight on the 31st mar. that day i was busy in town shopping, at the dentist and didnt reach home until nearly 6pm.

so i said the po shuts at 6, but no matter will pop up at 9am on fri first thing and get it.

so i had written my cheque for 6 months at £85.75 because that is what was printed on the renewal from said dvla. however when i reached po in the am, i got told sorry its gone up to £90.25. i said but its on here printed. but the po told me as of 1st april the car tax had been increased regardless of what was on the renewal form. i was so cross. i know its only about £5.00 of a difference but thats not the point. i then ripped up the said cheque and wrote another one!

its bad enough that in the budget we were promised fuel being reduced by 1p. well big deal, up here its going up daily and is now £149.9 and diesel £1.53. so i dont think 1p would do anything, 20p maybe.

sorry rant over!!!!

It also says on my renewal form-in RED capitol letters "the rates of duty apply at the time of printing,a different rate may apply following any Budget statement"

Florence - even had you purchased your tax on 27 March or days earlier, because the tax was valid from 1 April you would have been charged at the new and higher rate - I know because that happened to me one year too.

i have to say though, i didnt notice the red print, as always i was in a hurry!

It wouldn't be so bad if they actually spent it on the awful roads.

yes i agree, there are more pot holes than ever up here and it so damages the wheel alignment. all the loose pieces of chips and stones that have broken up, have given me 2 cracked windsreens in the last 8 months. each new one i claimed on my insurance, but the excess is £75.00 per claim when its not even my fault.

oh dear i seem to be grumbling a lot just now which isnt normally me but every bill that comes in at the moment is always higher than the last but our wages are the same. apart from not eating and freezing, i dont know what we can cut back on as we very rarely go out, about once a year.

right enough moaning for the rest of the year i think. if the sun would show its face, im sure we would all feel much happier but with a gale and force 8 winds today, dont think theres much chance, maybe tomorrow.

Florence, the Road Tax usually goes up by £5 each year, mine is due soon and I expect it to go to £210.Would,nt be so bad if it went on the roads but its just another con,it goes anywhere but. Try claimimg from the Council for your broken screens, they should have insurance to cover it..**M**.
