Having googled *where is the middle of England* the most common reply seems to be Meridan in coventry. x

The middle of mainland Britain (including Scotland and Wales) is either Haltwhistle in Northumberland or Dunsop Bridge, Lancashire according to Google.

Meridan is just up the road from me and very proud to be the centre of England. They have a cross and everything.

From point of view of train trips I'd be inclined to say Birmingham, because you change there for most areas?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 3 Apr 2011 12:55

We are a bit rural in these parts, Rose.

It's not that rural, Dizzi, we have buses and can get to the city in 20 minutes.

I was invited to a wedding once, In scotland, way way up north.
Fly to One of the airports, then get the train
It stopped at the village station once a week!

Thats what I call rural!

For centuries Meriden, to the west of Coventry, West Midlands, held the claim to be the geographical centre of England, and there has been a stone cross there commemorating the claim for at least 500 years.
