Could someone please tell me, how i go about finding out if a relative of mine ie Granfather who passed away 1940 had left a will?

You could apply to the probate office in london, i got my grandfather will from there .

Ancestry has wills online upto 1941

Are you sure Joy? The Court Service website still says it's only a fiver.

Yes. I received one recently. The covering letter ended with
Please be advised as of the 4th April 2011 our search fees will increase from £5 to £6 ..................
and that cheques should now be made payable to HMCTS.
