You could try going onto the Birmingham History Forum and asking. There are lots of different topics on there including family history and tracing etc.

Copies of the indexes can no longer be purchased which means that sites such as Ancestry, FMP etc will no longer be able to receive further updates. This was done as part of the GRO digitization project which sadly is currently on hold.

However, a complete set, including ‘Births, Deaths and Marriages from 1837 – 2008’, ‘Overseas from 1761 – 2008’, ‘Civil Partnerships from 2005 – 2009’, ‘Adoptions from 1927 – 2009’, and the provisional indexes for ‘Births and Deaths from 2009 to June 2010', are available at:

•Manchester City Library
•Birmingham Central Library
•Bridgend Reference and Information Library
•Plymouth Central Library
•City of Westminster Archives Centre
•London Metropolitan Archives
•The British Library

These locations get updates for you to view in person. This is expected to continue until free, online access can be provided as part of the mothballed digitization project.

The fraud thing mentioned by PP is correct but all a bit iffy as it has no legal basis. As the records are in the public domain, the GRO or indeed local Register Offices are legally obliged to provide you with any cert as long as you can supply sufficient information to enable them to identify it.

If you know the exact date there shouldn't be a problem. If you don't, enter the date as 01/01/yyyy, with no GRO ref and they will search that year and one either side, using the information you can provide.

Put her name into a Google search.

It may come up in a death announcement from a local paper.

Where do search for deaths that are more recent? Looking for Muriel E Osborne from Birmingham????
