Brookside Close was originally bought by Mersey Television in 1982 as part of a scheme to cover the costs of the show and to provide a more realistic set than some of their rival soaps. I believe it was mortgaged to the bank who provided the funds.

Six of the houses were on-screen as sets and the remaining seven were used to house the administration, post-production, canteen, make-up and technical facilities for cast and crew.

Sadly after the program finished in 2003, the entire close fell into a state of disrepair. The houses were refurbished a few years later, but the developer went bankrupt. All 13 houses were eventually bought by an unknown buyer for £735,000 in 2008 - far less than the asking price of £2 million.

Pictures of the close and an article about the sale on here:

Wow.... silly man.
I would like to know the 'whys and wherefores' though.
Wouldn't you?
No doubt we will hear all about it on the TV news eventually.
And yes... I remember and loved the show.

Brian Regan was remanded in custody at Liverpool magistrates court A former Brookside actor has appeared in court charged with the murder of a nightclub doorman who was shot dead outside a Liverpool pub.

Brian Regan, 53, of St Mary's Road, Garston, who played Terry Sullivan in the soap, is accused of killing Bahman Faraji, 44, in Aigburth on 24 February.

Lee Dodson, 42, of Logfield Drive, Garston, was also charged with murder.

Liverpool magistrates remanded both in custody, until an appearance at the city's crown court on 18 April.

A third accused, Edward Heffey, 40, of Beloe Street, Dingle, Liverpool, was charged with murder earlier this month and will also appear at the crown court that day.

Mr Regan also faces a charge of perverting the court of justice.
